Scale & Polish (Teeth cleaning)

Regular scale and polishing of your teeth should usually be done twice a year, with your dental check-up. At this visit your teeth will be cleaned (plaque and calculus removed) and polished. Professional fluoride application will also done at the visit, by means of a fluoride rinse that will further strengthen your teeth, until your next cleaning visit. Patients with underlying medical conditions (ie. Diabetes, cardiac disease, etc) are urged to take extra care or their teeth and get their teeth cleaned on a regular basis as well, as research has found a link between plaque bacteria and systemic disease. Patients should also keep in mind that a scale and polishing visit does not necessarily 'whitens' your teeth, it 'cleans' and remove external stains from your teeth. Teeth whitening are needed if you want to whiten your teeth (See section on tooth whitening).

Denture materials available are acrylic (plastic), thermoplastic (flexi) or cobalt-chrome (metal). Missing teeth should be replaced, as the remaining teeth might be affected, as the teeth may drift, tilt or even over-erupt into the opposing arch, if the missing teeth are not replaced. Dentures (False teeth) are an important cost-effective (Cheap) treatment option that will assist you to function properly (chew your food better), it will improve your smile and appearance (aesthetics) and your speech will also be improved (phonetics). Restorations (Fillings)

Restorations are used to restore decayed (rotten) teeth. They help to prolong the life of your teeth, preventing or healing sensitivity or pain. Several materials are available to restore these decayed teeth. Ask your dentist today about aesthetic restorations (tooth coloured fillings), that mimics the colour of your natural teeth.
Old amalgam (grey) fillings can also be replaced with white tooth coloured filling material, if the dentist advised it to be possible.

Root Canal Therapy (RCT)

Root canal therapy is a specialized procedure, performed on teeth that cannot be restored with basic restorations. When decayed teeth are not optimally restored, the decay will extend into the pulp chamber (tooth nerve), which can't be restored with a basic restoration or filling. Root canal therapy is then needed, whereby the nerve is removed, the canal cleaned, disinfected and shaped, and then filled with a sterile material to save the tooth. Some root canal treated  teeth will need a crown to effectively protect the tooth from trauma of normal function and para-function. The RCT procedure is done under local anaesthetic. Enquire today about RCT's to save a decayed tooth.

Veneers, Crowns & Bridges

Indirect restorations like veneers, crowns & bridges are fabricated in a dental laboratory and are used to replace certain tooth structures that can't be fixed with a basic restoration/ filling. Ceramics are used as material of choice to fabricate these restorations. There are various colour shades available to match your natural teeths colour. These restorations are long lasting and much more aesthetically pleasing then basic restorations. Improve your smile today, by enquiring about veneers, crowns or bridges.

Dental implants are also used to replace missing teeth. Implants are surgically placed in the jaw bones, and a crown is restored over the implant, which does mimics your natural tooth crown. The procedure is invasive but by far one of the best options to replace missing teeth. At our practice, the dental implants are surgically placed by our visiting implant specialist (Periodontist) and the crowns are restored/ placed by our visiting specialist prosthodontist.

Teeth Whitening

Professional tooth whitening are also done at our practice. Patients are required to have a dental check-up done, for proper evaluation of the hard and soft tissues before having the whitening done. Professional whitening materials may cause harm to your existing teeth, that's why an examination is needed to restore all open cavities or seal any exposed root surfaces, before continuing with the tooth whitening procedures.
